Melissa Mayes lived in both Los Angeles and New York City before moving permanently to Upstate New York. In her former career she was one of the leading set designers and stylist for the home furnishing industry working in advertising and for top shelter magazines. Before becoming a full time resident of Saugerties, she purchased a seasonal 1920’s cottage in the sublime Platte Clove area and renovated it into a year round habitat. The house became a successful vacation rental property while she was not living in it full time.
In addition to her career in production design, Melissa has an extensive knowledge of architecture and interior design. She pursued her Master’s Degree in Interior Architecture and graduated with dual degrees from UCLA and Cal Poly Pomona specializing in sustainable building. She is also a LEED AP, Accredited Practitioner in The Leadership of Energy and Environmental Design.
